We’re all set with Kickstarter, and the preliminary setup of our upcoming project. Thanks to everyone who has already expressed their interest in helping contribute to our next public television project. Over the next couple weeks, we will piece together the time-line and parameters of the project, and what you can do to get involved. We will then announce the project link, where everything will be located, and you can take it from there. All transactions are done via Amazon which will be great, so we all can rest easy regarding the handling of funds. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

After pulling away from the New Year’s Eve load-out in Saint Cloud, our van slowly slipped into hibernation as the cold temperatures, harsh winds and rain/sleet/ice/snow storms of January came to life. I, nor the local tow truck, could not get the van to turn over on the days prior to our performance in Sioux Falls. So, once again (this happened last year as well – I’m a bit of a slow learner – though I tried all the tricks I learned from the hibernation of January 2009), we called on our trustworthy, reliable sound technician, Neal Wallace from Event Pro. Within minutes he was loading up a truck with gear and heading to Sioux Falls. Thank you, Neal, you da man!
A week or so later, when we did get the van to come back to life (after a tow to the local Ford dealer and a new alternator to replace the one that was installed two months ago by another Ford dealer in the region – needless to say it was free…the second time), I hopped into the driver’s seat and headed to the parking lot, where the trailer lives, to hook it up before heading out to our show in Wisconsin. Due to a recent rain/sleet/ice/snow storm the streets were a bit slick and the parking lot was a sheet o’ glass. The van was like a big hockey puck sliding in circles from one end of the lot to the other. It become clear that my goal was no longer to attempt to get the trailer but to actually get out of the parking lot. After burning off at least 4/32nds of tread (which reminds me, I have to get those tires checked (replaced)), I put the van in park and made tracks for home. After brainstorming a few options to get the van and trailer out of the parking lot, we called on Neal to save the day. Within seconds he was headed to Wisconsin with a truck full of gear!
Now, with January coming to a close, the van sits at one end of the parking lot and the trailer rests at the other (which reminds me that I better head that way and make sure the van starts so I can get the tires replaced before the next show so I don’t have to look like a complete idiot, yet again, so we don’t have to call Neal (God love him) and compensate him, once again, for his exceptional service. Thank you again to Neal and all the folks at Event Pro – we could not have done it without you!

We’re in the process of putting together our new holiday public television special, and are looking at possibly using a cool method of funding it. This will be fan-driven support, and will offer cool incentive packages for your level of support pledged. We’ll let you in on all the information as we post the project. First thing we need is a Kickstarter invite from a previous project promoter, as this is the only way for us to begin. Any Kickstarter invitations, or questions can be sent to info@tonicsolfa.com

So, here’s the deal. We’ve all seen and heard what’s going on, so if you have the ability, put your extra $ to good use. Put your donation to maximum use by donating through an organization like the Red Cross. Send a $10 donation by Texting ‘Haiti’ to 90999. Your cell carrier keeps nothing.

I would like a show to come through in Bora Bora… or San Juan… or another exotic location which might allow us to break out flip flops early. I miss the sensation of skimming across the water on bare feet. And I miss the simple feel of a cotton tee… a short sleeve cotton tee in the summer sun. Together the images remind me of every 4-H food stand at every festival and fair across America and I miss those too. Perhaps I will have to ask for the tiny umbrella in an upcoming beverage. Or, like Brian Wilson, I could just build a sandbox in the living room… but that brings a whole new set of issues.
