I love a cappella. That said, this is one of the first a cappella albums that I’ve heard which combines originals and covers. Usually they are covers of others’ work. The good news here is that the originals here are pretty damn good. I am in love and partial to the cover of Michael McDonald’s “Takin’ it To the Streets.” I also fell in love with “Sleep On” and “So Easy,” which seemed to pull away from traditional Doo Wop a cappella and seemed a bit more modern.” -Michael Mardings, TheCelebrityCafe.com

Boston to Beijing

Chorus
From Boston to Beijing
In a worn-out time-machine We tripped to stardust
Dressed up like kings We drank to finer things
Boston to Beijing

Vs. 1
Lately I’m thinking there’s nobody ‘round To love or to comfort me
Yesterday’s filled with adventures that end And that’s no kind of company

(Chorus)

Vs. 2
Those days were brighter than most I suppose
Better than I deserved
But time brings redemption, time brings the truth
Though most days I know I’d prefer

(Chorus)

Bridge
Gonna’ climb the mountain
Gonna’ reach the top
Gonna’ sing my song
And I’m never gonna’ stop

(repeat)

Vs. 3
Looking back I see the four of us then Stronger than any one man
Filled with intentions to right all the wrongs Beautiful, noble and grand

Chances

Time can run away so fast,
Like a sweet, sweet summer day that tried to find you, Somehow got left behind you. The roads can take you down so many directions, There is no wrong or right way, Down life’s long, winding highway. And to think that I might have closed my eyes, In that moment and not known that you walked by.

Chorus
Chances only come along once in a lifetime. Dreams they just come true every once in a while. I look at you, and I know it was the right place at the right time. I believed in love, you believed it too, And that one chance in a lifetime came true. In the sky there’s a million stars Shining down upon us. You can look up at them all, But which one’s gonna fall? The heart it always has The answers if you listen, But you gotta keep believing, You gotta keep on reaching. For that someone you always hope to find, For that one love that just might change your life.

Chorus

Sleep On

Vs. 1
You’ll be famous, I’m sure you will be
I’ll catch your show on the late night T.V.
Ride the fame all the way to the top
Your grand illusions, they don’t ever stop
Chorus
Sleep on through the day
Sleep on through the night
Maybe tomorrow everything will be right
‘til then your dreams are yours
So get up and get ready ‘cause you just never know
Vs. 2
Tomorrow morning you’ll wake up and find
The trip is over, they’ve messed with your mind
Friend to friend, believe me I know
I’ve seen the future so you don’t have to go
Vs. 3
You overslept, so sorry that’s true
You’re looking at me, nobody’s to blame but you
A superstar I’m sure you will be
And we’ll all catch your show on the late night T.V.

It’s me Again

Vs. 1
O.K., Maybe I’m not as strong as I pretend to be
O.K., Maybe I’m just as insecure as everybody else
I tell myself maybe, I can work it out alone
No one else will ever know
Vs. 2
You there, watching and waiting with the patience of a saint
While I wallow in self-indulgent, paranoid philosophy
I’m no Socrates baby, in the end it’s like a marathon
I’m running straight to you
Chorus
I can’t seem to take this ride with ease
I can’t see the forest for the trees
I’m coming undone
Hello, it’s me again
It’s me again
Vs. 3
Tonight, while all the world is sleeping I will roam the halls
Consumed with the obsessions of a terminal insomniac
Under attack, save me, from the poets and the poltergeists
Playing in my head
Chorus
Bridge
So you tell not to worry
I’m a frightened little child
With a strong imagination
That can always be found
Running free and wild
Chorus (x2)

Who Wants to Go

Vs. 1
Cross the rolling river,
Past the billboard signs
Advertising every pretty lie
Brothers down in misery
Riding out to set them free
Uh-huh, the devil’s on the rise
Vs. 2
Now the red light’s flashing
Hear the big ten’s run
Mama don’t you worry ‘bout your son
Burnin’ through the chances and I’m
Leavin’ home to set things right
I’ll be back when all my work is done
Chorus 1
Who wants to go with me
Who wants to go with me
Black fire in the Mississippi sun
Sure don’t bother me
You want to break that chain
Tell me what you say
I wanna know, I wanna know, I wanna know
Who wants to go with me
Vs. 3
From the gates of heaven
To the carnivale
Sit around and wonder ‘bout it all
Listen to the blind man play
Waiting on his sunny day
Runnin’ on until the darkness falls
Chorus 2
Who wants to go with me
Who wants to go with me
Drink it up from the golden cup
We can go for free
You wanna make that change
Tell me what you say
I wanna know, I wanna know, I wanna know
Who wants to go with me
Chorus 1
Chorus 2

Oklahoma Wind

Vs. 1
Today he cried at work and everybody stared
Lately he don’t even smile
And somehow all the things he’s worked for in his life
They haven’t mattered in a while
Chorus
Oh that Oklahoma wind
Like a love that’s never gonna end
Oh that Oklahoma wind
Her love is calling him again
Vs. 2
After work he drives just to hold her hand again
He wonders if she knows he’s there
The doc says “take a break” but he grabs a cot to stay
He’s not going anywhere
Chorus
Bridge
Sunday morning comes too soon
He bows his head to pray
All the things he never gets to say
The bells ring and the choirs sing
No one seems to know
How to help a man who’s letting go…
Chorus

So Easy

Vs. 1
I got this feeling something’s wrong with me
But I’m not the guy who I used to be
She kills me lonely still I feel no pain
I’m runnin’ inside like I just got caught in the rain
Chorus 1
It’s so easy, to make the wrong seem right
It’s so easy, to wake up cryin’ in the middle of the night
I lost my faith and I lost my pride
Got used to feeling unsatisfied
It’s so easy
Vs. 2
She was the woman with the red dress smile
The transposition of eternal style
She saw temptation in her fiery eyes
You move in closer and you start believing her lies
Chorus 1
Bridge
Everybody say hey
Let me hear you say yeah
Everybody say ooh ooh
Chorus 2
It’s so easy, to make the wrong seem right
It’s so easy, to wake up cryin’ in the middle of the night
No use believing in a masquerade
I wanna go back to a brighter day
Start again and find a better way
It’s so easy

Rescued Me

Vs. 1
Like a ship, without it’s sails
Lost at sea, all by myself
No sign of hope, far as I can see
Then you came and rescued me
Vs. 2
Captive of mistakes I’ve made
Prisoner of yesterday
Locked inside
Without a key
Then you came and you rescued me
Chorus
Oh, you knew that I was hurting
Oh, you saw I was in need
Oh, for a man so undeserving
I’ve been blessed with someone
Far beyond my wildest dreams
Vs. 3
I had lost my faith
And lost my pride
Burdened by the storms of life
But my heart found shelter
My soul found peace
When you came and you rescued me
Chorus
Like a ship, without it’s sails
Lost at sea, all by myself
No sign of hope, far as I can see
Then you came and rescued me
Then you came and you rescued me

Other Side Of Town

Vs. 1
Girl you, you know how much I love you, yes I do
I never want to, don’t want to hold you down
‘Cause you were meant to fly away with your dreams and make them true
So baby, why would I ever want to try, to keep you on the ground
Chorus
I’ll be waiting on the other side of town
And if the world don’t need you and you come back around
Remember, love you lose can sometimes still be found
Waiting on the other side of town
Vs. 2
I’m no good at sending letters to you,
I’m not sure what to say
I can feel the miles drifting between us every single day
Here I am tonight the pain in my head
And nothing on the page
I’d like to change your mind, I’d like to make things better
But the words get in my way
Chorus 2
So I’ll be waiting on the other side of town
In my heart I know I let you down
And maybe love you lose can once again be found
Waiting on the other side of town
Bridge
Days go by, you go your own way, I guess that I’ll go mine
I never thought that I’d be here without you
After all this time
Chorus 1

Takin’ It To The Streets

Vs.1
You don’t know me but I’m your brother
I was raised here in this living hell
You don’t know my kind in your world
Fairly soon the time will tell
You, telling me the things you’re gonna do for me
I ain’t blind and I don’t like what I think I see
Chorus
Takin’ it to the streets
Takin’ it to the streets
Takin’ it to the streets
Takin’ it to the streets
Vs. 2
Take this message to my brother
You will find him everywhere
Wherever people live together
Tied in poverty’s despair
You, telling me the things you’re gonna do for me
I ain’t blind and I don’t like what I think I see
Chorus

Grace

Vs. 1
It was grace that brought me here
Though the way was never clear
In my constant wandering you were always near
It was grace that brought me here
Vs. 2
Through the fathoms of the deep
Cross the valleys of my sleep
While the storm was gathering
You whispered in my ear
It was grace that brought me here
Chorus
Fair is the morning
Onward as I go
I know you’re with me
My heart tells me so
Vs. 3
In the towers of the night
When I’ve lost my strength to fight
You said you believed in me
And washed away my fears
It was grace that brought me here
Chorus
It was grace that brought me here
Though the way was never clear
In my constant wandering
You were always here
It was grace that brought me here
It was grace, it was grace,
It was grace, that brought me here
